Jonathan - What I Did

When we created our music video, the responsibilities were shared between all three of us, the filming and editing side of things were what took most of my time up, we had to film in several locations, I organised the locations for filming and helped transport the equipment to the location on the days of filming. I also oragnised the extras that were required and helped to gain the services of the main actors that we decided to use, when we got to the stage of filming I used one of the cameras for the majority of the time as well as helped to decide the location of lighting and the order the shots would be filmed in. When we had finished filming we had to edit the footage that we had, I added effects to several segments of the film as well as cut them to the correct timings and placing them at the appropriate place in the timeline. This was helped by the fact that we had a detailed plan of how the film would look before we had even picked up the cameras.

The project involved much more than physically making a video, we had to create an entire media web for our "band", which involved social networking and photo shoots. I created a Facebook page for our project, which involved posting all of the videos that our group had to make and releasing surveys to our followers, this was also very useful for audience research. We had to create videos on our research and planning, I made several of these videos including presentations on:

  • Music Video History
  • Arctic Monkeys Research
  • Editing Software
  • Target Audience
  • Branding
  • Music Directors
  • Inspirations for our music video
  • Music Genres

As well as these I made compilations of photos that we had taken, these photos were not all taken by me, but I put them in the correct order and posted them on the blog, along with an explanation of why they are important:
  • Editing Schedule
  • Filming Schedule
  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Main Boy Candidates
  • Music Consumption
  • Shot List
  • Initial Ideas

As well as this I wrote the letter of permission to the Arctic Monkeys and posted it on the blog, after we had finished the project we had to evaluate our work, this was a group exercise but I helped out by finding helpful pieces of film and creating the intro to one of the videos, I am talking over one of the videos individually as well as part of the group in another. We all had an equal input to the evaluation pieces and this is the reason they came out so successfully. I put in a lot of hours to this project, as did the others in my group, and I think they paid off - we think our video was a success and this is purely down to the hard work and hours of effort that we put in.
