Jade - What I did

Whilst creating the music video we equally shared the responsibilities between us.  For the planning of the filming I arranged our location for the narrative side of our video at the pub function room. While filming the shots at the pub I ensured that we got all the shots we needed to get as it was a one off being able to get the pub for that day, while the other two took control of majority of filming with that camera for that day. When filming the band shots I helped to set up the stage so that it was ready for when we started filming. Also with the band shots I took more of a role when it came to filming and used mainly one of the cameras.

The planning of our video was a large part that ensured we got the shots we needed, I assisted with the planning by drawing up our storyboard and trying to make it as detailed as possible so when it came to editing it would be a lot easier to put together, however this was overall a group in deciding together what shots would look best where. Also I helped to take the photos for the album poster which was then edited by another in the group with the help and opinions.
I Also added entries to blog that said what we did each time we edited and filmed.

For the planning and research I completed several pieces of work which included:

  • Album poster analysis
  • Record labels
  • A2 music video analysis
  • Literal lyrics video
  • Storyboards
  • Mood board
Finally once we had completed our final product we evaluated our work. This was a group task therefore we spoke through and completed our evaluation I assisted by making a video to match one of our voice overs to make it more interactive. Overall I am very happy with the final product and how we worked well as a group and shared the responsibilities fairly and equal.

Sam: What i Did

One of my main tasks was the construction of our ancillary tasks, using a few ideas generated by the group I created both the digipak advert and the band website, then once we had received some audience feedback I was responsible for editing and remaking both these tasks.
During the construction of our music video, the responsibilities were shared between the group;  the filming took a few days and we all helped film parts of it, the editing was a long process with each one of us editing sections then getting feedback from the other two and generally building a really great video. As I am a perfectionist, I wanted to get the editing and cuts with the music, and ensure good lip syncing so that is what took up most of my editing time, using the others in my group coming up with really good shot orders etc. This was helped by the detailed plan made in our planning discussions.
We filmed in a few different locations and I helped to organised the timings for filming and assisted in transporting the equipment when filming. When we first tested in the locations I organised test shots and ensured the lighting was in the correct position to give the most benefit to the shot.

For research and planning, I made several videos including presentations on:
  • Music Video analysis
  • Music Consumption
  • Special Effects
  • Creating the digipak advert
  • Music Websites analysis
  • Production Companies
  • Planning Advert/Album cover

I added comments on the blog to most of the entries made and improved on those comments that had previously been added to the blog and took photos of some of our equipment. I also made some of the blog entries containing what we did on certain days. I also assisted with the wording of the letter of permission to the Arctic Monkeys.

Lastly once all the construction had taken place and we had our final products, we had to evaluate our work; this was a group exercise, i assisted in the making of a couple of the quesions, vocing over one of the videos individually and assisting with the others.
On the whole this project was successful due to the hard work put in by myself and team members equally, without such a well organised group with equal input this project woul not of been as much of a success as it has been.

Jonathan - What I Did

When we created our music video, the responsibilities were shared between all three of us, the filming and editing side of things were what took most of my time up, we had to film in several locations, I organised the locations for filming and helped transport the equipment to the location on the days of filming. I also oragnised the extras that were required and helped to gain the services of the main actors that we decided to use, when we got to the stage of filming I used one of the cameras for the majority of the time as well as helped to decide the location of lighting and the order the shots would be filmed in. When we had finished filming we had to edit the footage that we had, I added effects to several segments of the film as well as cut them to the correct timings and placing them at the appropriate place in the timeline. This was helped by the fact that we had a detailed plan of how the film would look before we had even picked up the cameras.

The project involved much more than physically making a video, we had to create an entire media web for our "band", which involved social networking and photo shoots. I created a Facebook page for our project, which involved posting all of the videos that our group had to make and releasing surveys to our followers, this was also very useful for audience research. We had to create videos on our research and planning, I made several of these videos including presentations on:

  • Music Video History
  • Arctic Monkeys Research
  • Editing Software
  • Target Audience
  • Branding
  • Music Directors
  • Inspirations for our music video
  • Music Genres

As well as these I made compilations of photos that we had taken, these photos were not all taken by me, but I put them in the correct order and posted them on the blog, along with an explanation of why they are important:
  • Editing Schedule
  • Filming Schedule
  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Main Boy Candidates
  • Music Consumption
  • Shot List
  • Initial Ideas

As well as this I wrote the letter of permission to the Arctic Monkeys and posted it on the blog, after we had finished the project we had to evaluate our work, this was a group exercise but I helped out by finding helpful pieces of film and creating the intro to one of the videos, I am talking over one of the videos individually as well as part of the group in another. We all had an equal input to the evaluation pieces and this is the reason they came out so successfully. I put in a lot of hours to this project, as did the others in my group, and I think they paid off - we think our video was a success and this is purely down to the hard work and hours of effort that we put in.

Bloopers

These are the bloopers for our music video just proving not everything goes aswell as it seams...

Editing Schedule

Some of our times for both our filming and editing schedules changed due to availability of people and also of equipment as other people may have already arranged to be using it.
